Election day is a little more than three weeks away on October 22. I’m excited to be on the campaign trail, knocking on doors and talking about plans for the next four years. People have asked what’s motivated me to run again for Mayor of Waterloo. I love our community. Serving, as mayor has allowed me to meet and work with people in all walks of life. Between the committee work, meetings and community events, I’ve met with thousands of residents in-person – including many who are passionate about making Waterloo a great place to live, work and play. Our region is booming. My goal in running again is to continue the important work we’ve been doing over the last four years, growing our job-rich community. During this term, we have made major investments in new light rail transit, wastewater processing, roads, and cost-saving LED streetlights. “Better Infrastructure” is a key theme for me going forward, with specific attention to roads, pipes and buildings that need improvement. Our plans include the construction of a new east-side library at RIM Park, a new older-adult recreation centre, and expanded facilities at the Rec Complex. To help ease congestion, we’ll be extending Columbia Street to Erb Street, past Costco.
I’ve listened to your feedback and in the next week, my platform will be posted online. It’s been a pleasure and an honour to serve as mayor for the past four years. I hope I’ve earned your trust and can depend on your support and vote on October 22.
