I love our community, and I love working together to make it even better. I am truly grateful that you believed in my plan for our city and elected me as your mayor in 2014. I have been proud to serve you, and the needs of our community, seven days a week for nearly four years.
And I’m ready to use my experience to serve you in a second term as mayor of the City of Waterloo.
I have worked hard to deliver on my 2014 platform commitments of
* rebuilding prosperity,
* growing our vibrant and caring community, and
* cultivating an effective and efficient government.
To rebuild our prosperity, the City partnered with Communitech to open an innovation hub. We also invested in the Accelerator Centre to cultivate over 100 new start-ups. Waterloo is now home to the head office of Shopify Plus, which has brought hundreds of new jobs to the region. And I’ve met one-on-one with hundreds of local business owners to ask how I can help them overcome challenges, grow and succeed.
A great quality of life means more than just great jobs—it means thriving neighbourhoods and an active, caring community. We’ve set the wheels in motion for an innovative east side library, revamped Waterloo Park, built the new Westmount Sports Park, and are building an older adult recreation centre at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
We’ve also worked hard to become more efficient, from an award-winning asset management system, to cost-saving LED street lighting, even to generating renewable energy from pet waste.
You deserve a vibrant and strong city—one that competes on a global level and feels like home. I am proud of the accomplishments we have made together to get there.
My work is not done yet, and I know there is much more to accomplish. Let’s continue to build Waterloo together, with positive leadership.
